Went to Flagstaff this past weekend for a little “getaway” that didn’t turn out to be that at all! It was a fun trip but unfortunately we didn’t get a lot of rest as Will had a little cold and didn’t sleep that much. The cabin was really cute but small and so the noise of Will probably woke everyone up when we fed him, but they wouldn’t admit as much. We also did a little climbing while we were there at a cool roof that is hidden from the main road. Not to hard of a hike and some really good quality stuff. The trip was nice, but if we do it again, it will be in the summer when there is running water and when our boy is a little older…beautiful place, though.

Went back to NM for another week to finish up some projects on moms house. Got them done and had fun – went to the airshow down at HAFB which was a little sad since I always used to go with my dad to show off the F-86 when I was younger. Only stayed for a couple hours but we enjoyed it and Henry LOVED the planes. Maybe a future as a pilot? We’ll see. Glad to be back home and looking forward to some kick ass adventures coming up in a couple weeks. Stay tuned… 🙂

We took a completely spontaneous trip to San Diego last Friday after finding out that Tommy would have four days off for the holiday weekend. Our original plan was to head up to the White Mountains but after discovering that everything was either closed or on fire, we decided to make the trip out to the coast to catch some waves and head to the zoo. We had a great time and it was nice to get away from the ridiculous heat of Tucson! We’ve also discovered that Henry is absolutely OBSESSED with water – he couldn’t get enough of the ocean and nearly drowned a couple times from just running in to the waves with no fear! He would stay in until he was shaking, freezing and blue but threw a fit when we tried to take him out. Tommy literally had to drag him back to the towel with him kicking and screaming and yelling “WATER!” all the way back. On the last night of our stay we had dinner out on the pier and he kept saying “water, water, water, water, water” through the whole thing because we had promised him to stop by the beach before we went back to the hotel. Tommy and I were ready to jump off the pier!! I have no idea where his love for water comes from but it’s clear that he’s not going to find any here in the desert so it’s something that we’ll hopefully remedy some time in the near future? We’ll see. 🙂

For Thanksgiving this year, we decided to change things up and head out West to the small town of Bishop, CA for a solid week of climbing. Upon arriving, the events that followed made us think we were cursed by the Gods and should just go drive the trailer off a cliff and give up on camping forever.
First off, when we arrived at the camp site and tried to set up the camper, we had to pull so hard on the canvas to snap it to the base of the trailer (because it was so cold) that Tom ripped off a button which left a hole for cold air to come through. THEN, we found out that we needed an adapter for our 15 amp plug to fit into the 30 amp reciever to get electricity. Tom drove out to 5 different stores but couldn’t find one. So that night, we had no electricity but were able to stay fairly warm with 4 blankets on top of us all huddled together in the queen size bed. Then the next day, while rain was pouring down and our potential climbing days looked bleak, the groundskeeper came to our rescue by giving us an adapter that someone had left there previously! With power finally coursing through the trailer, we turned on our electric blankets, lights, heaters, microwave and music and started getting psyched!
The first two days, we were able to get out to the boulders in the late afternoon after the weather broke and climb until around 4 pm when the sun fell behind the big mountains and the temp dropped too low for us to feel comfortable keeping Henry out there. We took a rest day on Tuesday and were able to scrounge up some swimwear to go to the Keough Hot Springs about 10 minutes away from our site where we all soaked in a 104 degree pool. It was HEAVEN. Then we climbed from 10 in the morning till sunset for the remaining 4 days. For the insiders, here are the highlights:

It was a great trip and Henry did so well. He had a lot of fun throwing rocks around and flirting with the pretty climbing girls we met. It ended up taking us around 14 hours to get home because of traffic and after getting home really late last night, we are glad to be back. Hopefully we can make another trip out there in the next year to address some unfinished business with a couple of the boulders. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!
